A favorite adventure of mine has been featured lately on two sites. Photos from my snowshoe and cross-country ski trips from Rim Village to the Watchman Overlook on the west rim of Crater Lake are a big part of my Exposure story on the park, part one of twelve in a year long celebration of the NPS centennial. Then over on The Outbound, the route is described for those who'd like to see if for themselves.
It really is a marvelous way to explore Crater Lake National Park in winter. Roads close as the snow falls, and much of the park becomes less accessible beneath the accumulation. That's just as well, though, because it means that those who do dare to venture into the white will have much of the rim to themselves. Get an early start under clear blue skies and head towards the Watchman.
